- Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the survival rate of suckling and weaned piglets in Taichung, Changhua and Nantou areas. Data was collected from twelve pig farms with a scale ranging from 500 to 6,000 pigs during January to December in 2020. Purebred Duroc (D), Landrace (L), Yorkshire (Y) or their hybrid progeny (LD, LY or LYD) were included in the study. The survival rate was calculated for two stages, one from birth to 21-28 days old and the other from 21-28 days old to 84 days. The results showed that the annual survival rate of suckling piglets was ranged from 79.8 to 92.3% and 90.8 to 97.3% for weaned piglets. In conclusion, the annual survival rate of suckling piglets was lower than that of weaned piglets in Taichung, Changhua and Nantou areas.
