The article discusses the depiction of women's honesty in the plays of French playwright Molière, particularly "Les Femmes savantes." Also cited are the traditional social practices in France that require educated women to hide their intelligence and speak carefully, the criticisms against women who flaunt their knowledge, and Molière's rejection of oppressive female virtues like modesty and chastity in plays like "Tartuffe" and "George Dandin."
