- Abstract
Misconceptions are common problems in chemistry education for teachers and students. These non-scientific ideas are reflecting students' not consistent ideas, biases and daily-life experiences. This situation is an obstacle for students to learn chemistry topics. Aim of this research is to identify students' misconceptions in daily life. Students' misconceptions were identified by "relationship of proverbs and chemistry science survey", which was developed by Arıer Karaöz (2009). Sample of the research is 40 sophomore students who are enrolled Elementary Science Education at Bülent Ecevit University in 2015-2016 fall semester. Data collection instrument consists of 24 proverbs. Some of the proverbs are conflicting with chemistry science. Students decide if there is a contradiction in proverbs with chemistry science and also they are asked to explain their answers in survey. Result of the analysis highlighted 16 common misconceptions about the proverbs.
