- Abstract
The article presents a summary of a study focusing on the monoene fatty acids of human surface lipids and their relation to skin melanogenesis. In this study, the position of double bonds of mono-unsaturated fatty acids of human skin surface lipids was determined by the high resolving gas chromatography-mass spectrometry system. Preliminary results following application to skin in some hypermelanotic conditions of a cream containing synthetically produced oxidation products of unsaturated fatty acids, indicate that this could be a valuable therapeutic approach to the treatment of hyperpigmentary disorders.
