- Abstract
The article examines the medical knowledge of the Byzantine era physicians, because the majority of them, in their writings, preserve the knowledge of the ancient Greek physicians, many of whose works are now lost, adding their own personal experience. The Byzantine physicians dealt especially with the specialty of dermatology, devoting in their works extensive chapters on various skin diseases. They paid special attention to the topic of cosmetics, especially to the removal of wrinkles and hairs on the chin, cleansing, lubricating, and moisturizing the facial skin.
