- Title
Cardiovascular Consequences of Subclinical Thyroid Dysfunction: More Smoke but No Fire.
- Authors
Ladenson, Paul W.
- Abstract
The author reflects on the controversy on treating subclinical hypothyroidism and subclinical thyrotoxicosis. The author mentions that thyroid hormone deficiency and excess can increase risks for atherosclerosis, heart failure and cardiac dysrhythmias. The author believes that it is for this reason that physicians remain doubtful whether to treat patients with pituitary thyrotropic cells.
