- Abstract
Infantile haemangiomas (IHs) are the most common tumours of childhood characterized by rapid growth during the first year of life (proliferating phase), and a slow regression which is usually completed at 7-10 years of age (involuting phase). The pathogenesis of IH remains poorly understood and unclear. IH may be classified depending on the affected skin layer (superficial, deep or mixed), size, or anatomical localization (localized, segmental, indeterminate or multifocal). Considering the fact that natural course of IHs is usually benign, more than 80% of all cases do not require therapeutic intervention. Treatment is necessary for IHs with local complications, functional threat, or risk of disfigurement. Nonselective β-blocker, propranolol, is an effective, well-tolerated and safe treatment for complicated His.
