- Abstract
This document is a response to a letter from Dr. Sukor and Dr. Kamaruddin regarding a study on predictors of incident hyperthyroidism in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). The authors acknowledge the points raised by the letter, including the potential impact of amiodarone-induced thyrotoxicosis on the study results and the possibility of contrast medium used in coronary angiography predisposing to hyperthyroidism. They agree that the study parameters did not include information about the usage of amiodarone or other anti-arrhythmic drugs, and they appreciate this comment for future research. Additionally, they conducted an analysis to determine if the medical diagnosis of coronary artery disease or myocardial infarction was associated with a higher risk of incident hyperthyroidism, but found no significant association. The authors appreciate the valuable comments and suggestions provided, which have prompted considerations for future research directions and improvements in their study.
