- Title
Clinical Trials for Lupus.
- Authors
Merrill, Joan T.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the problems encountered by clinical trials for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). It notes that it has been more than 50 years prior to 2009 since a lupus treatment has been approved. It adds that over 20 rational, immune-targeted biologicals have undergone development since 1994 yet all have failed. One issue cited as a reason behind the failure of lupus trials is the lack of biologic insight to make patient selection and dosing effective.
