Politics and health: a neglected area of research.
- Authors
Navarro, Vincent
- Abstract
The article reports on politics and health as a neglected area of research. It states that the scarcity of references on the impact of political variables on health policy and on health outcomes is one of the features of literatures on public health and health policy research in North America and Europe. According to the author, one of the main reasons for this is that the public health field is dominated by professionals trained in biology and medicine rather than in social science. He adds that public health professionals should also study the state and its governance in democratic societies to see how it does what it is supposed to do.
