- Authors
Flaiani, Enrico
- Abstract
The Rota archives offer the scholars more than 1700 linear meters of archival materials from the 13th to the 20th century and represent an extensive source for general history and socio-legal research. The paper presents a short history of this most important tribunal from the origins to our days showing the institutional evolution based on the historical sources. Some recent works and older standard references to the archival series are briefly discussed in order to show the kind of research conducted up to now. The upto-date list and content of the Vatican rotal series are presented together with their archival history and the list of the available inventories. There is also some reference to the existence of further rotal series outside Vatican. The production of new and more detailed indexes is on-going in order to support the researchers' needs and hopefully to encourage a wider use of these archival materials.
