- Abstract
The book "I Ruled the City of Berlin..." by Martin Otto is a biography of Ulrich Biel, a little-known historian and jurist. Biel grew up in Berlin and emigrated to the USA during Hitler's takeover of power. There, he served as a captain in military intelligence and accompanied the US military administration in Germany. After the war, he became a civilian advisor to the US city government in Berlin and established contacts with political figures such as Ernst Reuter and Ferdinand Friedensburg. Later, he joined the CDU (Christian Democratic Union) and was elected to the Abgeordnetenhaus (House of Representatives). The book portrays Biel as an influential "power broker" in post-war Berlin history, although it lacks scientific evidence.
