- Abstract
The article presents a historical background of the influence of Sir William Osler on medicine in Australia. Osler, who was born in Upper Canada, first took his medical education at the Toronto School of Medicine in Ontario and finished at McGill Univerity in Montreal, Quebec in 1872. His various foreign travels, affiliations and appointments to several medical organizations are cited. Some of the prominent Australian medical practitioners Osler have influenced are mentioned including Henry Simpson Newland, Almroth Wright, and Leslie Cowlishaw.
