- Abstract
Objective: To know the experience of the nursing staff in the practice of the kangaroo method in the neonatal ICU and what factors interfere with its applicability in this environment. Method: A descriptive, exploratory, cross-sectional study with a qualitative approach. Fifteen professionals from the nursing team participated in the research, including nurses and nursing technicians who develop their activities with newborns in the neonatal ICU. Results: The results showed that the Kangaroo Method is an important strategy for newborn care, and four categories were defined from the interviews. Final considerations: The Kangaroo Method is a strategy used by health professionals in providing integral, human and individualized care, being beneficial both for the newborn, his family and team, promoting the strengthening of bonds.
