- Abstract
The goal of the research was to assess the impact of Nordic walking exercise programme on the aerobic abilities and the physical characteristics of the elderly persons. The sample of the 20 persons was divided into the experimental group (10 their average age was 70.1 ± 8.1) and the control group (10 their average age was 68.5 ± 4.3). The data was acquired by testing the Nordic walking on the 2km. The both groups was measured on the first and on the last day of exercising that lasted for eight weeks, but the control group didn't perform any exercise program. Experimental group took exercise twice a week. The psychic condition, after eight weeks of exercise, was checked using an questionnaire about self-image and social life. The conclusion was that the changes of the results, between the first and the second measurement of the experimental group was statistically significant (p<0.001). After the second measurement, the exercising persons considerably improved their time in the 2km walking (for 7%). The difference between the experimental and the control group was statistically significant too (p<0.01), after the second measurement. The average time of the second measurement of the control group was worse than the first (for 2%). Furthermore, the answers to the questionnaire pointed out the fact that the exercise taken had a significant impact on the self-image and the social life of the people that exercised. The average assessment of the answers about the self-image was 4.1 (from 5), whereas the affirmative answers about the social life represent 91.25% of all answers.
