- Abstract
Contemporary sociology offers many theoretical and methodological possibilities for this field of analysis. The choice of symbolic interactionism to analyze liver transplantation is due to the fact that this essay addresses issues of central importance to authors such as Goffman and Strauss. The observations of chronic liver disease patients in the queue for liver transplantation, and those who had already received donor organs, made alongside the Liver Transplantation Team, are the subject of this discussion. This essay inquires upon questions regarding the language, the status and the identity of both convalescent individuals and those who had already undergone transplant. The survey took place at the Liver Transplantation Service (STH-HC) at UFPR's Hospital de Clínicas.
