- Abstract
The article focuses on the pathogenesis, epidemiology and therapy for acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Patients with ARDS may develops from severe hypoxemia to multi-organ dysfunction syndrome or sepsis, which could lead to death. ARDS may be cured by administering either steroids, elastase inhibitors, activated protein C, anticoagulation agents or antithrombin. The therapeutic use of an adenovirus vector expressing keratinocyte growth factor (KGF) is also discussed.
