Speed of Response to ECT.
- Authors
Kellner, Charles H.
- Abstract
The article deals with the time course of action for electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) in depression. Patients ill with severe mood disorders for months or even years and have tried antidepressant medications alone or in combination with mood stabilizers, antipsychotics and antianxiety medications are commonly referred for ECT. Earlier studies on ECT showed evidence to a quick response such as relieving suicidal intent, and improvement in objective symptoms like appetite, sleep, energy, and involvement in activities.
