- Abstract
Introducción. En atletas de alto rendimiento los cambios en sus programas de entrenamiento pueden causar efectos importantes en su rendimiento y su desempeño cardiopulmonar. El confinamiento a causa de la pandemia de COVID-19 modificó las agendas de competencia y los programas de entrenamiento de esta población. Objetivo. Determinar el efecto de la infección por SARS-CoV-2 en los parámetros cardiorrespiratorios de atletas de alto rendimiento. Materiales y métodos. Se examinaron 16 atletas de alto rendimiento en nueve disciplinas deportivas en Bogotá con diagnóstico confirmado de COVID-19 y ya recuperados mediante ergo espirometría antes del retorno a su entrenamiento habitual. Los resultados se compararon con sus registros prepandemia. Resultados. El 94 % presentó por lo menos un síntoma; los síntomas más frecuentes fueron la cefalea (75,0 %), la odinofagia (68,8 %) y el dolor muscular (56,3 %). Las pruebas pre-post fueron máximas sin diferencias significativas en la tasa de intercambio respiratorio (RER). Se registró una reducción en el VO2max absoluto y en el relativo, así como un aumento en VE/VCO2 en la prueba posterior a la COVID-19. Conclusiones. Puede concluirse que los participantes experimentaron una reducción en su desempeño cardiorrespiratorio.
