- Abstract
The article focuses on the role of leukotrienes in the pathogenesis of asthma. The pathology of asthma is characterized by the presence of airway inflammation in which many cells such as eosinophils, mast cells and T lymphocytes play a role. The activated cells release various proinflammatory and inflammatory mediators, whose individual role is largely unknown. Asthma is a disorder of the intrathoracic airways characterized by variable airflow obstruction and airway hyperresponsiveness to a variety of stimuli. It has been observed that leukotriene antagonists can have anti-inflammatory activity in asthma.
