- Abstract
Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease caused by a metabolic disorder characterized by elevated levels of serum glucose due to insulin production deficiency. For treatment in addition to drug therapy, non-pharmacological measures should be adopted aiming at changes in lifestyle. The study seeks to analyze adherence to the treatment of patients with diabetes mellitus treated by the unified health system in municipalities in the western region of the State of Paraná. Methods: Between May and September 2022, a study with a qualitative and descriptive approach was carried out with patients followed in the Model of Attention to Chronic Conditions (MACCCISCOPAR) that serves 18 municipalities in the western region of Paraná, where data were obtained through an exploratory study in electronic medical record and through semi-structured, individual and face-to-face recorded interviews, with guiding questions, transcribed and analyzed thematically, through data analysis, carried out by the MACC pharmacist - CISCOPAR. Based on data analysis, the sociodemographic profile was determined and three categories of factors that influence adherence were identified. The present research demonstrates that factors of understanding the clinical condition, acceptance of the disease and interfering with the execution of the proposed treatment do not act in isolation, but interact with each other producing different degrees of adherence to the treatment, and suggests that the performance of the multidisciplinary team through of proposed interventions and educational actions, contributes to adherence to treatment.
