- Abstract
The essay proposes a philological and literary study on the figure of Carlo Crivelli, in order to explore the existence of ‘possible relationships’ with the intellectual context surrounding him, which certainly existed but of which nothing is currently known in terms of concrete data. In particular, this research focuses on three thematic elements, which take their cue from as many historical-artistic details, relating to the figures of Francesco Filelfo, Enea Silvio Piccolomini and Francesco Maturanzio. Important novelties have emerged regarding the underwriting of the Madonna della candeletta, here philologically examined for the first time, and regarding the cultural milieu of Camerino in which that chef d’oeuvre was produced. The method followed aims to set up a synergic interdisciplinary research between the different areas involved, in order to benefit an overall reinterpretation of the Fiftheenth Century Humanism in Le Marche region, on which there are still many grey areas, but whose vitality may have represented a non-negligible element of attraction for the refined Venetian artist.
