- Abstract
Claudio Mendoza (1951-2024) was a renowned computational physicist known for his humor, irreverence, and intellectual activity. He was born in Venezuela and grew up in a small village where his family, along with other artists and intellectuals, created an environment of intense intellectual activity. Claudio pursued his education in London and later returned to Venezuela to work as a faculty member before completing his Ph.D. at University College London. He made significant contributions to projects on atomic data for astrophysical applications and X-ray spectroscopy. Claudio faced challenges in his career due to his public opinions, leading to his retirement and emigration to the United States. He passed away in 2024 after battling lung cancer.
