- Title
Preparing High School Physics Teachers.
- Abstract
The article discusses issues concerning the design of an academic program for students pursuing a degree in high school physics education. A boundary condition for any teacher program will be the certification requirements. For physics teachers these range from as many as 36 semester hours in physics to as little as one course in chemistry. The design of the program should take into consideration the following: preparing a teacher in at least one other field, necessity of a separate teacher program, consideration of the needs of the high school teacher in developing the physics courses, and the importance of a course in the history and philosophy of physics.
