- Abstract
The article reports on an effort to overcome some of the barriers to the development of sound achievement tests by classroom teachers in New York. It describes the procedures followed by 17 teachers of high-school biology from six different schools, in constructing and refining a series of achievement tests specifically adapted to common objectives of their own courses with the assistance of university consultants in science education and measurement. The objective of the project was to develop a series of unit achievement tests that would measure academic accomplishment with respect to selected areas of the New York State Regents Syllabus in Biology, as that Syllabus is interpreted in the metropolitan area of Rochester.
