- Abstract
The article presents a study related to Titania that has been known to have three crystal phases, brookite, anatase and rutile. The anatase titania has the highest photoactivity than the other two phases. The study shows that the addition of 30 percent silica increased the phase transformation temperature of anatase titania to rutile titania by about 180°C. Therefore the titania powder can be calcined at higher temperatures so that it remains as the anatase structure which has higher photoactivity than the rutile structure does. At the same time, higher calcination temperature resulted in a higher crystallinity and lower density of bulk defects in the anatase particles. Besides, high temperature calcination also produced more oxygen vacancies on the anatase titania surface
