- Authors
Waterhouse, William C.
- Abstract
The article presents information about writer James Bosewell and his literary work. Bosewell in his book "An Account of Corsica: The Journal of a Tour to That Island; and Memoirs of Pascal Paoli" compares General Pascal Paoli who opposed the presence of French in Corsica, to figures from antiquity; among other things, he mentions Paoli's dogs. Boswell's modern editors tracked down the reference, writer Joseph Warton's note. Syphax standing between two dogs, Scipio. They add that the passage is not in Livy, and its source is still unknown.
