- Abstract
Currently, Brazil is considered the largest producer of yellow passion fruit in the world. Passion fruit pollination is carried out solely vy the bee of the genus (Xylocopa spp.), better known as mamangava, mangangá or rodeo wasp. These bees feed on the nectar taken from passion fruit flowers, which simultaneously carry out pollination with great efficiency. This work aims to highlight the importance of the bumblebee for pollination of the yellow passion fruit flower, in a small plantation in Palmeira dos Índios-AL. Data collection was obtained in loco, from walks, from December 2016 to April 2017. Among the rows of planting, a greater number of other floral visitors was observed, whose bumblebees were always present in smaller numbers, and even so, they were the only ones capable of carrying out pollination with quality. The importance of bumblebee in pollination of yellow passion fruit required visualizing the flowers of the most visited plantation and comparing them with others. The flowers visited by the bumblebee were pollinated, whose use is 100% of ripe fruits. On the other hand, the flowers visited by the other species had great damage with 0% of fruits set. Therefore, the bumblebee of the genus Xylocopa is essential for the perpetuation of the yellow passion fruit species Passifloracea edulis.
