- Abstract
A wide range of retrofit scenarios are available for residential buildings; however, the application in different building models has to be analyzed based on the buildings' characteristics. The paper presents a study to evaluate the effects of retrofit scenarios on energy performance of residential buildings with emphasize on the relation of retrofit actions and morphological characteristics, location and layout of these buildings. The parametric analysis of retrofit actions is executed for two building types with different conditions including a single-family house and an apartment, representing considerable part of existing residential fabrics in Yazd. This research proposes a retrofit plan implementing two strategies to balance the energy demand and supply of models by minimizing the annual energy demand and providing electricity by photovoltaic systems. This suggested retrofit plan incorporates three components of a comprehensive retrofit project: building envelope, systems and technologies, and application of renewable energies. The evaluation of demand and supply in balance analysis indicates that significant reduction in energy can be achieved (up to 36%) and total electricity generation is increased up to 9.25% in certain models by application of proposed retrofit scenarios. The results of this study are beneficial as guidelines for improving the energy performance of similar residential models in existing building fabrics.
