- Abstract
The article focuses on the role of retained teeth in dentistry. It mentions the significance of retained teeth in dental specialities including prosthodontics, orthodontics and periodontics. Removal of a retained tooth depends on the type of incision, the type of procedure on the bone and the subsequent care of the wound. A retained or impacted tooth leads to neuralgia, inflammation and tumors in some cases. Wound care is acrried out in two ways, one through primary suture after surgical removal of the third molar and by use of packing. Special caution is necessary in surgical removal of mandibular retained premolars during the incision.
