- Abstract
Attention and impulsivity can influence the driving of a motor vehicle. The aim of this study was to investigate the criterion validity for tests that evaluate such constructs. Participants were 201 examinees enrolled in the process for obtaining and renewing the National Driver's License (NDL) at six pericial psychological evaluation traffic clinics in Piauí, aged between 18 and 68 years (M = 29.64, SD = 11.31), of which 115 (57.2%) of males, and schooling from Elementary School to Higher Education. Candidates for the NDL answered the TEACO-FF, TEADI, TEALT, and EsAvI, while candidates for renewal answered this instruments plus the Driver Behavior Questionnaire (DBQ). No differences were found between candidates for the 1st NDL and candidates for renewal. There was a positive correlation between the EsAvI subscales Lack of Concentration and Persistence, Audacity and Temerity, and the total DBQ Violations, whereas a negative correlation to the Cognitive Control factor was observed. The total score of the knowledge test showed a positive and significant correlation to TEADI. Results supported the predictive capacity of attention and impulsivity tests in regards to the instruments used as criteria.
