- Abstract
An essay is presented which examines the influence of American poets Yvor Winters and Allen Tate on British poets Thom Gunn and Geoffrey Hill. It also examines 20th century American poetry with particular attention on modernist poetry and how this impacted the style of British poetry. The author explores Gunn and Hill's admiration for Winters and Tate's poetics and social aspects of their work.
