- Abstract
The article presents a speech by U.S. House of Representatives member Jeb Hensarling, delivered at the 31st Annual Monetary Conference of the institution the CATO Institute on November 14, 2013. He compared and contrasted the institution the U.S. Federal Reserve System (Fed) and the free market as regulators. He argued that U.S. federal regulators helped precipitate the financial crisis of the early 21st century, discussed what he referred to as the dual mandate of the Fed, and outlined the function of the U.S. House Financial Services Committee.
