- Abstract
The article discusses the financial crisis, examining the causes of the crisis as well as the turmoil in the financial markets. The author divides the article into two basic parts which includes a discussion of the expansion in mortgage lending from the mid-1990s through early 2006 and market volatility that began in the middle of 2007. Other topics include actions taken by the U.S. Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) to both raise and lower interest rates and innovation in the area of retail credit delivery.
