- Title
THE STATUS AGREEMENT FOR INDUSTRIAL STAFF IN ELECTRICITY SUPPLY.
- Authors
Roberts, R. D. V.
- Abstract
An account of the electricity supply Agreement may, therefore, be of general interest. A warning must however be given that this Agreement, as the title suggests, was not primarily a productivity agreement but an agreement which aimed to raise the social status of the industrial staff. But since this was to be achieved without any substantial permanent increase in the industry's labour costs it was realized that labour productivity would have to be increased and provision was made for this. It is in this sense that the agreement has the characteristics of a productivity bargain. <BR> This paper gives firstly a factual statement of the organization and size of the industry, its negotiating machinery, the aims of the Agreement, the nature of the negotiations and the main changes which have resulted from the Agreement. Secondly it gives a preliminary appraisal of these results.
