- Title
U.S. RESEARCH ON WHALES.
- Authors
BROWNELL JR., ROBERT L.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the abandonment of the Whale Research Program of the Bureau of Commercial Fisheries (BCF) in the U.S. According to the Department of the Interior, the initiative was intended to make better use of available funds. It was transferred to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) within the Department of Commerce. It was perceived that the move would cause the future of whales to be endangered and some may even be exterminated due to the subsequent loss of data and the base information provided for management purposes.
