- Abstract
There are a number of reasons that can lead to forest health problems. The most important abiotic factors are drought, extreme temperatures, wind, snow, etc. The most harmful biotic factor is the harmful human impact. The same is reflected in illegal logging, illegal occupation of forest land by the local population, irresponsible behavior of citizens towards forests and the environment, which can lead to fires (this primarily refers to damage that can occur during the spring when the population burns agricultural land), creating wild landfill in forests and uncontrolled grazing. All these factors contribute to the reduction of forest vitality, which can lead to overpopulation of secondary pests, i.e. bark beetles. This paper discusses the health status of forests in the area of Zenica - Doboj Canton in the period from 2018 to 2020. The most significant factors that impact the health of forests, which have been identified in the area of Zenica - Doboj Canton, are bark beetles, fir needle moth, oak lace bug and fires.
