- Abstract
This article presents the clinician's corner where cases are reviewed. A 59-year-old man with a history of myocardial infarction (MI) and a low ejection fraction is considering an implantable cardioverter-defrillator (ICD). The patient was well until 7 years ago when he had an acute anterior MI. Cardiac cathertization revealed a tight lesion of the proximal left anterior descending coronary artery so he underwent a successful stent placement. He is currently be treated for hyperlipidemia and is on several medications. Many issues have to be discussed from the patient's perspective and by the physician. The process has to begin with the potential risk of death with or without the device. There are tests which help identify who will benefit from the ICD divided into to levels of indication.
