- Abstract
This article presents research data related to high rates of heart disease in South Asians compared to other regions. Conventional risk factors do not account for the abnormally high rates of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). This study analyzed over 1,700 cases of AMI in five south asian countries and over 10,000 cases from the rest of the world. It focused on commonly understood risk factors such as: smoking, exercise, family history of diabetes, alcohol intake, diet and several others. When all of these risk factors are analyzed collectively, the results are similar to other countries.
