Reports the investigation of wound botulism among black tar heroin users in Yakima County, Washington during August 22-26, 2003. Discussion of circumstances of the drug users; The severity of their infection; Treatment with antitoxin and antibiotics; Finding of botulinum toxin type A in two patients; The effort to inform injection drug users about the outbreak; Editorial note from the CDC relating an outbreak of necrotizing fasciitis in which Clostridium sodelii was identified.
