- Abstract
The article discusses the role of radical populism in Latin-American politics and its relationship with democracy and the people. It analyzes the different ways in which populist leaders and their opponents have interpreted democratic representation and participation. It examines the meaning of the rhetorical category "the people." It inquires on the depiction of populist followers as masses influenced by demagogues and suggests a different understanding of why common people continue to support radical populism and populist leaders.
