- Abstract
The article explores the history of San Francisco, California from the perspective of Georgian immigrant Margaret Emma Lydia Heyde and printer David Anthony Paddock. Emphasis is given to the couple's marriage and family life. Topics discussed include political turmoil in Russia and Georgia during the civil war of 1917, Paddock's employment as a newspaper printer for the "San Francisco Chronicle," hiking trips sponsored by the Sierra Club in Marin County and Muir Woods, the ethnic diversity of the city, and Margaret's employment at the Sutro Library Branch of the California State Library.
