- Authors

- Abstract
National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD) is a national day celebrated in the United States on April 16th every year. It was organized by attorney Nathan Kottkamp in 2008 to raise awareness about the importance of advance directives. NHDD aims to encourage conversations among family members and friends about their wishes in the event that they cannot communicate. Since its inception, over half a million Americans have received advance directives education and over 14,000 advance directives have been executed. The vision for NHDD is for every healthcare facility to participate and for various organizations and religious institutions to support the initiative. While the national day is celebrated on April 16th, it is not mandatory for the celebration to occur on that day.
