- Abstract
This article discusses research into the overexpression of human hydroxysteroid (17β) dehydrogenase 2 (HSD17B2) as it effects skeletal development. Transgenic mice that expressed HSD17B2 were analysed for differences in their trabecular and cortical bone marrow density (BMD) and variations in osteocalcin levels. According to this research the expression of this gene slows bone growth by disrupting the coordination of Insulin growth factor one and sex steroids.
