- Abstract
Flash memory, widely used in mobile devices, is characterized by a small size, low weight, high capacity, low power consumption, nonvolatility, and vibration resistance. Although it has many advantages, it has two limitations: it cannot be updated in situ, and the programming/erasing count is limited. Therefore, it cannot be managed using traditional file systems. Here, we describe a novel design for flash memory based on grey decision theory. We experimentally verified its performance and space utilization on the SMDK2410X platform. The proposed method outperformed the Journaling Flash File System, version 2(JFFS2) by an average of 50%, and demonstrated 54% more space utilization.
