- Abstract
A combined CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and experimental method is developed to study a chamber type exhaust muffler performance. It is fitted with a single cylinder petrol engine operated with petrol-methanol blended alternate fuel. The simulation technique involves preparing the solid model of a chambered type exhaust muffler and than creating a mesh model for the same to simulate it in a pressure based solver. The input to the model, such as mass fraction of the exhaust gas is obtained from the emission analysis of the test engine operating in petrol-methanol blended alternate fuel. The simulated out put such as the temperature is validated with experimentally sensed one and found to be matching. Later, the emission constituents such as CO, CO2, NOx, HC measured at different torque and speed conditions are optimised using the Taguchi method.
