- Abstract
The authors reflect on industrial symbiosis (IS), the practice of two or more otherwise unrelated industries developing a mutually beneficial relationship making productive use of otherwise underutilized resources including materials, water and energy. They explain that as a strategic tool for economic development, green growth, innovation and resource efficiency, IS has been incorporated at all levels of policy. They also discuss designing IS networks for a particular objective.
