- Abstract
Liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) has become a routine clinical application, allowing for the measurement of various analytes such as drugs, hormones, and newborn screening. However, there are still challenges in implementing LC-MS/MS in clinical laboratories, including limited throughput, manual post-analytical processing, lack of 24/7 service support, and the need for specialized training. Roche Diagnostics is working on incorporating automated LC-MS/MS into their Serum Work Area, which would allow for random access testing and potentially replace immunoassay as the first-tier testing principle for certain applications. This development has the potential to greatly impact the clinical management of epilepsy and other conditions.
