- Abstract
The objective of the present study is to analyze the use of the ironic procedures and the parodic discursive modalities that Vicente Huidobro uses in Tres inmensas novelas, a short book of three brief humorous tales that the Chilean poet wrote together with Hans Arp, in the year 1931, during a summer shared in the people of Arcachon, in the region of Aquitaine. The first element that we would like to underline is the geo-poetical position from that the text was written, since it is a collection of stories elaborated "from the margins": in case of Huidobro, the off-centerperspective depends on his geo-culturalorigin (a Latin-American citizen living in the European continent); in case of Arp depends on the exile's condition that the Alsatian artist experienced due to the continuous clashes between France and Germany for the control of the region. Thanks to a wise and clever use of the parody, the irony and the paradox, Tres inmensas novelas questions any manifestation of aggressiveness and any form of violence - both physical and verbal or ideological-, using a series of rhetorical resources that provoke the laugh in the reader at the same time as they untie reflections on how tragic events (a war), or feelings considered noble (the sense of mother land), can turn into a comical parade of pathetic bit-part actors.
