- Abstract
The article offers an overview on the results of a study by Marjanovic et al involving patients with acute cardiogenic pulmonary edema and hypercapnia. Changes in PaCO2 in subjects receiving high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) or noninvasive ventilation (NIV) are compared and demonstrated no statistically significant differences between the two groups. In the emergency department, patients present with undifferentiated respiratory failure with hypercapnia determined after NIV or HFNC initiation.
